Cerreto a Merse
The village is probably already mentioned in 730, in Warnefred’s donation to the monastery of S. Eugenio, in later centuries it belonged to the Ardengheschi family. At the beginning of the thirteenth century it came under the dominion of Siena and became the seat of one of Siena’s communities. It is situated along the old road that connected Orgia to Petriolo. Its church, dedicated to S. Giacomo, was suffragan to the parish of Recenza. Today there is a large building with certain characteristics of the XVI century, which was renovated at the end of XIX century and is used as a farm, that shows on the south side a portico with arches separated by a large, elegant, octagonal, brick pillar with a stone engraved capital, typical of the years 300.
