The ancient church of Recenza is dedicated to S. Giovanni and is mentioned for the first time in a document issued in 1189 by Pope Clement III. During the thirteenth century it belonged to the Ardengheschi family, then passed under the dominion of Siena. Today there is a villa in a beautiful position, whose medieval origin is revealed by two stone arches in the main building and by other three cores of ancient buildings, one of which is the church. The church has obviously been restored over the centuries but it still shows the various elements of its original structure, such as a big arch and some traces of frescoes.
